What is CPR?

• CPR stands for cardio pulmonary resuscitation

• Cardio means heart

• Pulmonary means lungs

• Resuscitation means to save

​

• CPR is used when someone is unresponsive.  

• Chest compressions help to move the blood with oxygen through the body. It is not as good as the heart pumping blood to the body by itself, but it still gets some blood with oxygen to the body.

• AED means automatic external defibrillator

​

• The AED machine can quickly check the heart rhythm.

• If the heart is not working right, it can shock the heart to try and get the heart back into a normal rhythm. It should only be used if someone is unresponsive
